The BBS File List Viewer
Version 5.0
May 1996
Introduction:
The BBS File List Viewer is a tool to make reviewing and searching BBS
file lists easier. The program has been designed to be intuitive to
operate, so the details supplied here will be scant.
PRESS F1 during the program to get contect sensitive help!
Basic Operation:
Having downloaded a files list from a BBS execute The BBS File List
Viewer by entering the command line FV. The display will show a number
of options. Before you can use The BBS File List Viewer on a file list
the file list needs to be imported. To do this select the "import"
option and press return. Enter the name and path to the file list and
press return and then enter a name up to eight characters of the BBS
associated with this file list and press return. After a while the
file list will have been converted into a format usable by The BBS
File List Viewer and you can view it with the "VIEW" option. Notice
when viewing a BBS file list the list is sorted into file name
alphabetical order .
Keys:
When viewing a file list you will notice three columns: Name, Key and
Description. The second field is a "key" field which contains the
first word in the file "fl2csv.key" which is contained within the file
list description for this file. This key file may be amended as
required and allows for a quick visual check of a file's type;
PICTURE, ARCHIVER, FAQ or whatever. The file list may be viewed sorted
by key and then by name, so that all associated entries appear
together.
Searching:
There are three available searches: By file name, by key and by text.
A search by file name very quickly searches the file names for the
entered search text. Similarly, a key search quickly searches for the
first key containing the entered search text. The third search is very
slow but searches the entire file list for the first record containing
the entered search text.

Using Windows:
The BBS File List Viewer has been tested under Windows 3.1, and
suitable .PIF and icon files are provided. If you have trouble running
the program under Windows then use DOS!
Trouble shooting:
If FV.EXE terminates with the message Not Enough Memory as soon as you
start it, try entering SET CLIPPER=E0 at the DOS prompt and then run
FV.EXE again.
